What is a Bed and Breakfast?

A bed and breakfast is a private residence that rents out bedrooms for short stays and serves a morning meal to guests. The Cedar Breeze is a 4000 sq foot residence built in 1970 that has 4 guest rooms and a cottage. The Cedar Breeze has 3 guest rooms upstairs that accomodates adults, a large suite on the first floor and a cottage in the back of the property both which welcomes families. We have arranged the B&B in this manner to accomodate couples looking for a quiet stay, as well as families who wish to enjoy the B&B experience. Each guest room has a queen bed and a private bath located in the room. Our maximum occupancy is 16. The Cedar Breeze has sufficient common areas to allow as much interaction with, or privacy from, other guests as desired.

Breakfast at B&B's can vary from continental to buffet to short order. The Cedar Breeze does a family style, single seating breakfast at 8:30AM each morning. While we tend to serve all guests the same entrée, we do try to accomodate most dietetic constraints. A typical breakfast at the Cedar Breeze consists of fresh fruit, pancakes/french toast/egg entrée (depending on the menu), with sausage or bacon, coffee, tea, and juices. Our breakfast recipes have even been featured in our local newspaper!

A Bed and Breakfast is truly a friendly alternative to a hotel/motel and offers personalized attention. For those who have never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast before; think of a B&B as a boutique hotel. Since we have lived in the area since 1996, we are able to provide our guests with history and highlights of the area, opinions on restaurants, and insights into the surrounding beaches.

Who Comes to a Bed and Breakfast?

Because the Cedar Breeze is located in a beach resort area, our guests are a mix of young adults, families and those young-at-heart. Most are from the metro Washington DC, Baltimore, and Philadelphia areas. Over the past few years, we have seen an increase of visitors from NYC and Pennsylvania. We have had numerous international guests, which adds an interesting mix to our breakfast conversation.

We enjoy a 40% rate of returning guests as well as many first-time B&B users. Although the shoulder seasons usually brings us true B&Bers, price considerations and limited choices within Bethany Beach, has welcomed many first-time guests to the Cedar Breeze during the summer months.

What Do I Need to Bring?

Easy – The same personal items you would normally take to a hotel. If you have a favorite pillow, pack it, but there's no need. We are identical to a hotel/motel. No need to bring sheets/towels/hairdryers. We have an ironing center should you need to press off something (but remember you're at the beach and everything is pretty casual). We also have beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas.

For our guest's convenience, we have a fridge for storing drinks and snacks. If you absolutely have to check email, or worse, do work (you're on vacation!), we have free wifi available. There is also a DVD player in all the guest rooms.
